The breeding of cattle is extremely bad for the enviornment. About half the water consumed in the United States is used to grow grain to feed cattle. The amount of water used to produce ten pounds of steak equals the household consumption of a family for an entire year. About fifteen times more water is needed to produce a pound of beef protein than an equivalent amount of plant protein. A ‘feedlot’ steer produces (an incredible) fourty-seven pounds of manure a day.
